SEAFORD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORTS SEAFORD HEAD SCHOOL PTA
On Thursday 7 November 2019 the Chamber presented a cheque for £7,200 to Headteacher Bob Ellis and Rob Handy from Seaford Head School. Each year, a Golf Day is organised by the Chamber with sponsorship from local business, including a dinner and luxury auction, a fabulous amount was raised from this year’s event. The total raised was then match-funded by Barclays bank resulting in this donation.
The school promotes Mental Health and Wellbeing for all pupils and their Student Council has suggested that equipment for an outdoor gym would not only benefit their physical health, but spending time outside in the fresh air would have a massive positive impact over the year. The donation will help the school to purchase the equipment for this purpose.
The school is very dependent on their PTA fundraising to help the school reach its goals and supporting pupils in their education by subsidising school trips, those who deserve to but would be unable to attend the Year 11 Prom, paid for the new wildlife garden managed by the students and their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Schools in East Sussex lost over £37 million of funding, equating to £273 per pupil. Seaford Head School will have had a cut of £1.5 million by 2020 and this equates to a loss of funding for 6 teachers. Failing to invest in children can trigger substantial economic, social and political costs resulting from negative outcomes such as early school drop-out, poor labour market entry, risky sexual behaviours, substance abuse and crime and violence – as well as other anti-social behaviour.
